The above painting and the small studies below where inspired by a photograph from Chloe Baker and Oliver Johnson's blog #searchingsafepassage.blogspot.com/ Both of whom traveled from Lesbos Island in Greece to southern Germany in 2015 to gain a better understanding of the situations for refugees along the Balkan Route. I applauded them for what they did and highly recommend that you find time to visit this blog. These works are my small contribution. Little studies . . .
Many thanks to Aidan Dunne for mentioning my work in yesterday's Irish Times in his review of the RHA's 186th Annual Exhibition. Very kind. Back in the studio today after a wonderful few days away in Dublin for the 186th Annual Exhibition at the Royal Hibernian Academy. Very honoured that my painting Lakeview was selected to be part of this exhibition. Congrats to the RHA for a great show, also congrats to all whose work was selected and to those who won prizes. Especially Brian Ballard who I had the great pleasure of meeting, well done for winning the Award for Senior Artist. @BrianBallardart http://www.brianballard.co.uk @rhagallery http://www.rhagallery.ie Seeing cardboard in a different light after checking out Mick O'Dea's 'The Foggy Dew' Exhibition at the RHA in Dublin yesterday. Well worth a visit. So too is David Farrell's interesting photographs and Maeve McCarthy's large atmospheric charcoal drawings. Hurry though as tomorrow is the last day . . .
Delighted to say that my painting 'Lakeview' has been accepted into the 186th Royal Hibernian Academy's Annual Exhibition. This year's exhibition opens to the public on the 22nd of March and runs until 11th June. Very honoured to be part of this and really looking forward to seeing everybody else's work.
It has been a busy few months in the studio; I spent most of them just enjoying painting and when I wasn't painting I was filling my visual diary with sketches . . .and dare I say . . . doodles! Already on my second diary and it is only February! Delighted as I can see a body of work starting to emerge. Below are some new studies. Enjoy. Some photos and sketches from OFFSKETCH Galway. Many thanks to Hilary Morley Clarke and team for giving us a wonderful array of venues to choose from last Saturday, it was a great day and a brill day for sketching!
