My painting for the Daughter of the Dagda Exhibition at the KAVA Courthouse, Kinvara. This work was inspired by the folkore and stories surrounding both Brigid the Pagan Goddess and the well known Saint Brigid that I came across in my research. White cows or white cows with red ears were seen as sacred animals in pagan times as there was a belief that they connected this world to the next. Also St. Brigid was said to have traveled the land of Ireland in the company of a white cow with red ears and it is believed that the animal not only sustained Brigid but also the poor she encountered on her travels. It was lovely to have been part of this exhibition that celebrated both the Pagan Goddess and the Saint through the medium of art. An exhibition that highlighted the Feminine, Mother Nature, Celtic traditions and Irish folklore. I suppose you could say that with this painting I have now become part of the process of continuing the tradition of passing Brigid's story down to the next generation!
